RECOLLECTION ECHO
05:03:21
Using her distinctive dreamy aesthetics, Northern Beaches artist, Ash Holmes presents her latest collection of works, 'Recollection Echo'.
This body of artworks takes a new direction for the artist as she explores new methods and materials. Twelve smaller works use film images from her 35mm camera. Ash begins with her transfers of film photos on fabric or canvas, before painting over the top with acrylic and oil pastel.
Her novel technique showcases the images as though they are portals or windows into her memories and journey as an artist. The title of the works 'Recollection Echo’, glimmers at the idea of recalling memories that echo, becoming softer/faint as time goes on.
Unlike previous series, 'Recollection Echo' takes a varied materiality. Holmes applies her painting style to linen, silk, denim, acrylic, oil pastels, charcoal and spray paint.
Within her neutral colour palette of pinks, orange, or hints of blues, unfamiliar text also appears throughout the artworks. Meaning HIGH, the artist reflects on butterflies—who fly high and live life to the fullest in the small amount of time they have.
10% of the profits from this body of work will be donated to the Gunawirra organisation. To read more about the organisation please visit - https://gunawirra.org.au
